FedEx Surcharge and Other information

1. Supported FedEx Core International Courier Channels

When shipping internationally via the Fuuffy smart platform using FedEx courier services, shippers must comply with official structural, dimensional, and weight guidelines. Beyond standard freight charges, FedEx assesses an Additional Handling Surcharge for non-standard items. Fuuffy supports two primary business-grade channels:

  • FedEx International Priority® (IP): Our flagship time-critical service. Shipments are guaranteed for priority morning or midday delivery within 1–3 working days to major business districts globally.
  • FedEx International Economy® (IE): A cost-effective solution providing reliable door-to-door tracking and customs brokerage, typically delivering within 3–5 working days for non-urgent e-commerce cargo.

2. Triggering Parameters for FedEx Additional Handling Surcharges

An Additional Handling Surcharge is enforced whenever a package cannot be seamlessly processed by automated sorting conveyor belts due to the following three criteria:

A. Non-Standard Packaging Structure (AHS - Packaging)

  • The item is not fully encased in a sturdy corrugated cardboard container.
  • The outer wrapping utilizes metal, wood, rigid plastics, cloth canvas rolls, or materials other than standard cardboard.
  • Cylindrical or irregular shapes, including metal drums, plastic pails, wooden barrels, or unboxed loose tires.
  • The exterior corrugated surface is extensively wrapped in stretch films or highly reflective shrink plastics.

B. Dimensional Surcharge Thresholds (AHS - Dimensions)

Triggered immediately if any single package meets any of the following physical criteria:

  • The longest side of the container exceeds 121 cm (approx. 48 inches).
  • The second-longest side of the container exceeds 76 cm (approx. 30 inches).

C. Weight Surcharge Thresholds (AHS - Weight)

  • The actual scale weight of any single individual package exceeds 31 kg (approx. 70 lbs). This threshold evaluates true gross scale weight independently of volumetric parameters.

3. Heavy Freight Boundaries: FedEx Oversize Charge Criteria

Packages that vastly exceed standard logistical dimensions are classified as Oversize Cargo, resulting in flat baseline rating minimums:

📐 Oversize Classification Metrics:

• The longest side of the package exceeds 243 cm (approx. 96 inches).
• The combined length and girth metric exceeds 330 cm (approx. 130 inches).
※ Length + Girth Formula = Longest Side + [ (2 × Width) + (2 × Height) ]

💰 Minimum Billable Weight Requirement:

Any shipment classified under the Oversize Charge parameter is subject to a mandatory minimum billable weight of 32 kg (approx. 71 lbs). If a package falls under this category, FedEx will not duplicate charges for standard weight or dimension surcharges.

4. Administrative and Operational Accessory Charges

Apart from package sizing limitations, the following pass-through out-of-pocket surcharges may apply based on delivery locations or clearance conditions:

  • Residential Delivery Charge: Applied when deliveries are made to private residential homes, home-based offices, or non-public retail outlets.
  • Tenement Staircase Climbing Fees: Governed strictly by local courier labor union regulations at the destination. Drivers reserve the right to refuse upper-tier deliveries or apply custom quotes for heavy boxes without elevators.
  • Address Correction Fee: Assessed if an active waybill requires modification mid-transit due to sender errors (such as missing postcodes, incorrect unit numbers, or misspelled street names).
  • Ancillary Clearance Advancement Fees: Levied when FedEx advances import duty and tariff payments to expedite customs clearance, charging a percentage-based processing fee upon recovery.
💡 Sizing Prevention Advice: Prevent Laser Scanning Deviations

FedEx transit hubs utilize high-precision lasers to scan the outer contours of a package, incorporating any outer cardboard bulges or edge deformations. If an overstuffed box warps, a 120 cm length can easily register as 122 cm, triggering size surcharges. Shippers are highly advised to maintain a 2 cm buffer space and use high-grade double-wall cartons.
