Lithium & Built in Battery Shipping Guide

Lithium & Built in Battery Shipping Guide

Quick Answer

Electronics with built-in lithium batteries can be shipped via Fuuffy's sensitive cargo channels, provided the battery power is under 100Wh and the device is powered off. Pure lithium batteries and power banks are strictly prohibited from air freight.

Shipping Guide: Lithium Batteries and Electronic Devices

When shipping electronic products (e.g., smartphones, headphones, smartwatches) abroad, one of the most common questions is "Can I ship batteries by air?" Under IATA regulations, lithium batteries are classified as Class 9 Dangerous Goods, posing physical risks during high-altitude transport if improperly packaged.

However, by choosing the correct shipping channel and following proper packaging guidelines, these items can be delivered safely. This guide outlines the 2026 shipping standards to help your tech products reach customers globally.

Classification: Identify Your Battery Type

IATA regulations categorize lithium-powered shipments into distinct types, each requiring different Fuuffy shipping channels:

🔋 Built-in Lithium Batteries (UN3481)

Batteries installed in devices (e.g., phones). Fuuffy supports this via our "Special Sensitive Cargo" channels.

📦 Pure Batteries / Power Banks (UN3480)

Standalone batteries or power banks. These are strictly prohibited for standard air freight.

Limits and Operation Guidelines

Even for compliant items, power must be under 100Wh. Typical consumer electronics usually stay within these limits.

Important Note: Shipping Strategy

Always select "Built-in Battery" when creating your Fuuffy order. Misdeclaring goods as general cargo may lead to shipment seizure and non-refundable shipping fees. We also recommend limiting orders to 2 electronic items per package.
