UPS Large Package Surcharge

UPS Large Package Surcharge

1. UPS International Express Single Package Maximum Limits

When shipping internationally via Fuuffy using UPS express services, shippers must strictly comply with the official rules regarding dimensions and weight limits for single packages. Any shipment exceeding these boundaries will be charged an 'Over Maximum Limits Fee' and other cumulative operational surcharges:

  • Maximum Weight Per Package: Must not exceed 150 lbs (approx. 70 kg).
  • Maximum Length Per Package: Must not exceed 108 inches (approx. 274 cm).
  • Maximum Length + Girth Combined: Must not exceed 157 inches (approx. 400 cm).

2. Large Parcel Surcharge Criteria and Billing Logic

A package is officially classified as a 'Large Parcel' when its combined length and girth exceeds 300 cm, but remains under the absolute 400 cm limit. Large parcels trigger specific pricing rules:

📐 Length and Girth Formula:

Total Dimensions = Longest Side + [ (2 × Width) + (2 × Height) ]

💰 Large Parcel Core Billing Rules:

• Large Parcels are subject to a minimum billable weight of 40 kg. Even if your package weighs only 10 kg, the system will automatically bill it as 40 kg.
• An additional Large Parcel Surcharge will apply. However, if this fee is assessed, UPS will not apply an Additional Handling Surcharge to the same tracking number.

3. Additional Handling Surcharge Triggering Conditions

To protect automated sorting belts, UPS mandates an Additional Handling Surcharge for any package matching any of the following non-standard parameters:

  • Non-Standard Packaging: Any article not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard box. This includes containers made of metal, wood, rigid plastics, canvas cloth rolls, or boxes heavily wrapped in stretch film.
  • Special Cylinder/Crate Shapes: Cylindrical items, barrels, wooden crates, pails, or unboxed tires.
  • Size Threshold Triggers: Any package with its longest side exceeding 122 cm or its second-longest side exceeding 76 cm.
  • Single-Package Overweight: Any individual package with an actual scale weight exceeding 25 kg.
  • Average Shipment Overweight: Shipments where the average weight per package exceeds 25 kg, and individual weights are not specified in the documentation.

4. Heavy-Duty Pallet Service Surcharges

Applicable to heavy commercial freight moving under UPS Worldwide Express Freight® services:

  • Oversize Pallet Surcharge: If a palletized shipment crosses the maximum allowable dimensions, UPS will enforce a flat fee of HKD 2,723 per oversize pallet.
  • Regional Variations: Exact maximum weight and dimension specifications vary depending on origin and destination regulations. For comprehensive industrial specifications, review the official: UPS Worldwide Express Freight Sizing Document.
💡 Useful Sizing Tip: Beware of Box Bulging

Automated lasers at transit hubs scan the outermost edges of a package. If a box is overstuffed and bulges along its side panels, or deforms during long-distance handling, the scanning system will record the maximum protrusion as the actual dimension.

This can push a borderline carton into the 'Large Parcel' bracket, adding massive unexpected fees. Always leave a 1-2 cm safety buffer when measuring.

If you plan to ship heavy furniture, oversized equipment, or arrange palletized industrial freight, please consult Fuuffy Live Customer Support before packing, and our logistics experts will guide you through the process.
